After 20 years of "chipping" away at a college degree...my mother (high school dropout) is graduating in May with her Bachelors in Psychology from The College of New Rochelle.
As I have been savoring the day until her graduation cermony (so I can smoke a Coheba and celebrate), she called me yesterday to inform me of the great news that she's been accepted in the Teaching Fellows (Special Education). My mom is going for her Masters...as I write this entry tears come to my eyes because in November she'll be turning 50 and now we can celebrate both milestones. My mom embodies the following quote: when life hands you lemons, make lemonade...
Mom, thank you taking the deck you were handed, reshuffling it and staying in the game...this win is not only for you but for our legacy.
It's not how you start that matters, but how you finish! =)
You Rock...I love you Mom...

What a wonderful story! The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. What was that someone recently wrote about DNA?
Oh wow I know how proud you are of your mom. I certainly am. I remember those days back at NYC Tech, I always knew your mom had the brains for school. I am so glad that she's fulfilling her dreams. God bless her. Michelle

Hey guys,
It's mom. Thank you for the encouragement. If it weren't for the Grace of God, the Love of my children, Rafael, Yvette (Nani) and Stephanie and friends, I would have never made it.
To think that I hated school once upon a time. Go figure that I work for the Dept. of Ed.
The end a race indicates the beginning of a new race. I finish one race to begin another. I look forward to teaching and working on my Master's Degree.
Note to Michelle,
